- The Oil & Gas Award was presented to the “Litoteca Nacional” National Oil Core Repository project in the category O&G Exploration – Production. The award was received by the National Hydrocarbon Commission (CNH) at the opening ceremony of the International Energy Conference (Encuentro Internacional de Energia Mexico EIEM 2019) held in Mexico City end of November.
- The studies on the Chicxulub impact and the End-Cretaceous mass extinction, including the results from the IODP-ICDP Chicxulub Drilling Expedition 364 , were included in the science Breakthroughs of the Year by Science (Science, 20 December 2019)
- The 2019 AGU Fall Meeting was held in the Moscone Center in San Francisco and this time it included the anniversary events for the AGU Centennial. The Mexican Geophysical Union UGM was part of the invited societies and participated in the International Committee meeting, special events and the Exhibition Program. The UGM booth was well attended and showcased the developments of projects and studies.
- The Mexican Geophysical Union (UGM) held its annual meeting end of October in Puerto Vallarta Jalisco on the western Pacific Ocean coast. This year the central theme of the meeting was Geosciences and Society, which attracted wide interest and participation of UGM membership, professionals, students, governmental institutions and private companies. The meeting major events included sessions and displays on the centennial anniversary of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG) and American Geophysical Union (AGU). A discussion forum was organized as part of the union activities, with participation of the IUGG president and AGU CEO and executive director and a group of distinguished panelists.
